Falling in love was the easy part. Being secretly in love with my brother’s best friend is where it got tricky. Levi Dent was off-limits. Which was probably for the best, since he barely knew I existed.
Until one night I saw an opportunity I couldn’t resist.
The problem was, I got caught.
She tricked me. I knew there was something so familiar about her, but I just couldn’t resist. Hannah Matthews was nothing more than my best friend’s little sister. Except she wasn’t so little anymore.

What is “That” you ask? Well, that I can’t get into, just know that it’s big.
As for what I can comment on…
Levi and Hannah. I honestly loved these two, but man, they both gave me whiplash throughout the entire book. Levi is a good guy. He’s had an interesting life, not all of it good, but he’s thoughtful and deliberate, which at times gives him tunnel vision. Hannah is a sweetheart. She’s had it rough, despite growing up with a loving family, but she’s come out of it a lot stronger than most even realize. Their journey was quite...convoluted and frustrating because of it, but I loved how evenly matched they ended up being and how they both grew as their relationship did. There are A LOT of road blocks in their journey to their HEA, more than you could imagine, but, in the end, they ended up exactly where they were meant to be.
This book surprised me in a lot of ways. Where the story takes us was not one I saw coming, so buckle up. I went from laughing to wanting to gut a lot of people in a matter of seconds because, the unfortunate truth is I actually didn’t like many of the secondary characters and that is very rare for me, I always find one to love, in this case...not so much. A few redeemed themselves ~ kind of ~ but others didn’t. BUT even though I didn’t like them, there are a few I really want to see knocked on their asses, so will be keeping an eye out for their books to see if they can find redemption.

Chicks, Man is another hit by J.D. Hollyfield! She continually impresses with her ability to give us light, adorable humor, incredibly hot steam, and still manages to throw us a suspenseful curveball! This book will have you flipping pages, eager to see how it all plays out! Definitely recommend this one! It's unique, surprising, and one you'll devour I one sitting like I did! - Five SASSY and SUSPENSEFUL Stars!
This book was not what I expected, at all. If you see this cover and that blurb and expect a rom-com, think again. There were definitely humorous parts and lighter moments, but as a whole this book was an intense experience. It actually felt like two books in one.
So, why 3.75 stars? There were parts of this book (especially the first 2/3) that captured my attention and I couldn't put the book down. Seriously. I was mad I started it before bed and I was up way too late trying to read as much as I could devour.
It was the last third of the book that got a bit too tedious for me. The charm that enraptured me from the beginning got a bit too heavy for me. I don't know if it was because I had a different idea for what I thought this book would be, but I found myself taking breaks while reading. Where just a few chapters earlier I couldn't read fast enough.
Don't get me wrong, I certainly enjoyed this story. This new-to-me author has a way with words that I will explore further in her other work. This book is definitely worth the read, just go in with no expectations or ideas of what you think it will be.
When Hannah takes it upon herself to sneak into her longtime crush, Levi's pants, while it may have been the best sex of both their lives, it's not exactly the start of a beautiful relationship because Hannah is Levi's best friend's little sister, the little sister who is, and always has been, off-limits. Not to mention that he's now her mentor at her father's law firm, where she has just taken a paralegal position. Yep!
But suddenly Levi's seeing Hannah in a whole new light. She's not just Kip's plain little sister any longer. No, she's a smart, fierce and intelligent woman whose curves are calling Levi, best friend be damned...
There's someone out there, though, even aside from Kip, who doesn't want them together, and it will take all of Hannah and Levi's legal smarts to figure it out, and to stop them. Hopefully before things reach the point of no return.
Wow, this story really did not go the way I thought it would. I thought it would be kind of a fluffy piece of fun. And it is fun as the two banter back and forth while falling in love. But it also has suspense and intrigue that I had no idea would have any part in this story. But it's a very good thing, because it gave Hannah and Levi's story an added layer of depth, and made me like it even more. I think Hannah and Levi make a great couple. Their love story is sexy and suspenseful and has a great secondary cast. Speaking of...I hope their friend Chase gets his own story *hint hint*

Chicks, Man is my first read by J.D. Hollyfield and while it was a really good story, there were a few things that irked me, and a few that confused the heck out of me. For one, there is a significant age difference between Hannah and Levi; nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but… some things just don’t add up. I spent a lot of the story with a frown on my face trying to figure it all out. Levi is a great, sweet and sexy guy, it’s not hard to see how Hannah could fall for him now… or when she was a teenager in high school, but before that? Hmmm, maybe it was just me? For all that, Hannah and Levi have a blistering chemistry, but the fact that she’s not only his best friend’s little sister, (this fact was brought up multiple times) she’s also his boss’s daughter and newly started working for her father’s company. Levi is Hannah’s mentor and that just lets things heat up even more. They know they shouldn’t but when the attraction is this strong what can they do but give in. This wasn’t simply a forbidden love story, there was a whole other storyline too, with some twists and turns you’ll not see coming. It’s a bit angsty, emotional and will gut you in places. There were plenty of secondary characters, some I wanted to bash over their heads with the treatment they dished out at Hannah. Or that nobody seemed to notice or care when it happened. Even Levi let it slide at first. Thankfully, he redeemed himself in the end and came through big time for Hannah, when she truly needed him.
The reason i gave it 4 stars is because the first 40% of book was the plain brother's best friend and h story but then slowly it started taking shape and had unexpected twists along the way which almost matched with reality. It was altogether an awesome read. First book by this author and I am FLOORED.
Levi and Hannah have always been a part of each other’s lives. Levi has only ever seen Hannah as his best friend’s little sister, whilst Hannah has had a secret crush on Levi for most of her life. On the night of her brother’s wedding Hannah tricks Levi into what she thinks will be one night of passion and fulfilling her wildest dreams, only to find out that they will be both be working together at her dad’s law firm. Gulp.
Levi is an all-around nice guy. He’s caring, sweet, protective and I loved his possessive side. Hannah, ugh I had mixed feelings about her. She was innocent and docile but at times she did redeem herself a little when she stood up for herself and show her feisty side. But I did find her a bit frustrating at times with her naivety.
I loved the connection Levi and Hannah shared. They already shared familiarity and friendship so once they pursued their chemistry and attraction, their love truly blossomed.
There was so much action and drama that I felt it took the focus away from Levi and Hannah’ story. Also, I really struggled to like some of the secondary characters, some were just horrible to Hannah. It was an enjoyable read and the writing was great but there were a few too many things that dimmed the enjoyment for me.

Chicks, Man was my first book by JD Hollyfield, and it was full of surprises! The story went in directions I definitely didn’t expect, and it was a rollercoaster of emotions, making me laugh out loud at times and my heart break at others.
Levi, best man at his best friend Kipley’s wedding, sees Kipley’s younger sister Hannah for the first time in years. Gone is the little innocent girl, in her place a woman who has caught his attention. But knowing what he would but at risk by pursuing anything, he ignores his attraction, until a mix-up leads to them in a supply closet during the reception. Not realising who was in there with him until after, Levi is angry and in disbelief that the woman who rocked his world is Hannah. Hannah, freshly graduated from college, returns home to work for her father’s law firm. She’s always had a crush on Levi, but he’s always been unattainable, older and more popular. When they are thrown back into each other’s lives more permanently, working together on a daily basis, the cat and mouse game begins. Will Levi and Hannah ever be able to be honest with their family and friends about their relationship, or will other powers at play push them apart before they can even get started?
I did enjoy this book, I really liked reading how the relationship blossomed between Levi and Hannah and they give into their feelings. I love the whole brother’s best friend trope, the secrecy and how they fall so fast. Levi was such a sweetheart with Hannah, honest about his feelings, good and bad, from the start, but worried about hurting his surrogate brother and family. Hannah was so so strong, more so than anyone ever realised, she stood up for herself and had grown a backbone from when she was growing up. She went after what she wanted and didn’t care what anyone else thought, I loved her personality.
The only thing I was a bit dubious about was the turn the book took, I feel like it went from 0-100mph in about 2 chapters and it became less about Levi and Hannah and more about the other plot. I love when the romance isn’t the sole focus of a plot, but I didn’t realise how heavily this would change halfway through and it came as a bit of a shock. I did predict the twists, but not to the level of depth the actions would go, and I was surprised with the final third of the book.
Chicks, Man is full of action, drama, secrets and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next, but by the end I felt like something was missing, although I’m not sure what. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy this book, I just think the way it changes so suddenly halfway through threw me off a bit, the drama was intense, and I had to skim read some of it because my heart couldn’t take the descriptions. But I loved the banter between Levi and Hannah, how their relationship blossomed. I struggled to like most of the secondary characters, especially Rebecca but also Stacey, I wish she stood up for Hannah sooner, I’m not sure I would appreciate my sister-in-law not having my back. I adored Levi and Hannah’s story, and how they ultimately won in the end!
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
J.D. Hollyfield is a new author to me and I am not sure how it is that I have not come across her before. Chicks, Man is an entertaining story about Levi Dent and Hannah Matthews.
There were moments where I laughed out loud, I cried and also where I smiled like a lunatic. I loved the banter particularly between Hannah and Chase. The secondary characters of Chase, Kipley, Stacey and Ben were fun and I would love to read more about them.
Hannah has had a crush on Levi for years until one night changes their lives forever. The chemistry between them is intense. I enjoy stories that have a little mystery, angst and suspense and this book certainly has them all.
I will certainly be looking at other books from Ms. Hollyfield when time permits.
I've always like this kind of trope and this is my first time reading this author, but It won't be my last! I really liked how the story flowed, the sexiness of it and the way they tried to fight it, but couldn't anymore! great story.
5 CHICKS, MAN STARS!! This genre is always great for me and this book was exactly what I love. Hannah and Levi gave me everything from hot chemistry, fun, sexiness, drama and lots of love. I have read a couple books by this author and she gives us great stories.
Emotion, Emotion, Emotion. Jessica gives us that and so much more. We meet Hannah Matthews a young woman who has always felt insecure, sometimes bullied even and the little sister who has crushes on her big brothers friend her whole life. Levi Dent was always unattainable until one night changed everything. Levi Dent didn’t have the greatest home life growing up, but he fought for everything he had. He was a great football player, a successful lawyer, even had a best friend who brought a great family into his life but what he never realized or noticed was his best friends sister until he did. Hannah & Levi have a explosive chemistry, but the obstacles are abundant. They will have so many angsty moments, some scary moments but the tender sweet moments outshine them all. When you get to the end of their story you will feel each of the emotions that they felt but you will have a smile on your face knowing that they can overcome them and hopefully find the HEA that they truly deserved.
I fell hard and fast for Levi and Hannah’s story. Yes, It was cute and sweet, but it was fiery and smokin hot. They had off the charts chemistry, a forbidden love vibe to it, and definitely some angst and suspense.
Hannah has always had a thing for Levi. Her brothers hot best friend. I loved how Hannah utilized her opportunity to take the bull by the horns so to speak and get the guy she’s dreamed about since she was a teenager. I’m not sure she expected it to backfire the way it did, nor did she expect to have to interact with Levi like she did afterwards. But Hannah was beautiful and a total sweetheart. She wasn’t going to let an uncomfortable situation deter her dreams and plans. She was feisty and fearless at times, and at times she still carries emotional baggage from her teen years. I had the biggest girl crush on her character. She made me laugh, she made me smile, my heart also broke right along with hers.
Levi Dent is a good guy. But good guys don’t sleep with their best friends' sisters. He’s mad that Hannah duped him and he’s certainly not happy about the newest predicament they find themselves in. But he is most unhappy about the fact that he can’t get their encounter out of his head.
I loved Levi’s banter with Hannah. It was witty and funny. He was hot and sexy, but he was sweet and caring also. Out of all the guys in her brother's group of friends, he was the most genuine and didn’t treat her like the others did, even if he didn’t always jump in and stop it. I love his self reflection, looking back at how she was treated by the other people in their group of friends. But his eyes are opening now and they see only her, and it’s beautiful and precious. GAH! They are so adorably yummy together! 😍
My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book! ⭐️⭐⭐⭐⭐- This book has it all. It was charming and witty. It was sexy and funny. It had twist and suspenseful turns I didn’t see coming. It had that forbidden brother's best friend aspect, but was also like enemies to lovers, because there was some definite anger and tension between them after their first throw down. It was fun and engaging and I devoured it super fast. I did not want to put this book down! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥-Holy Hades Hannah and Levi!! Yummy for her secret trickery that ends in a hookup! Licious smexy times!! 🌪Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger! Amazing HEA
Chicks, Man is a rather unexpected surprise that I couldn’t put down! I didn’t read the blurb so I had NO IDEA what I was getting myself into but I LOVED every single moment of this book.
Hannah is just starting at her father’s law firm and the person mentoring her? Her brother’s best friend, her childhood crush, the man she tricked 3 weeks earlier her brother’s wedding, Levi. Levi never paid much attention to Hannah when they were growing up, she was always his best friend’s little sister. Now she isn’t so little and there is something about her that he can’t seem to stay away from. Is he willing to risk his friendship and the father/son relationship he has built with her father to be with her?
Hannah was always picked on in school and by her brother’s friends. She was always just the annoying little sister, the girl that everyone just ignored. She didn’t really have a voice growing up, until she went to college. Now she has a voice, she is grown up and she is tired of being ignored by everyone. I was rooting for this girl to put everyone in their place! Levi was the football star, dreams of going pro, but made a different decision, a smart one to secure his future. There is a lot more to him than just the hot jock. He is smart, caring, insanely protective. I loved the chemistry between Hannah and Levi throughout the entire story. Their tension was fantastic throughout the story.
The secondary characters added a lot to this one. Hannah’s brother and his group of friends. There was some hilarious banter with them towards the end and I hope there is maybe some more of them in the future.
Chicks, Man had some sweet moments, some moments that made me laugh, cry, want to throw my kindle. It also packed the heat and some suspense! There is really a little something for everyone in this book. It is a MUST READ for me!
Hannah Matthews has been in love with Levi Dent since she was seven years old, he’s her older brother’s best friend who’s never shown any interest in her other than her being his best friend's little sister. When her brother's wedding presents her with the perfect opportunity to get her hands all over the delectable Mr Dent, Hannah takes it and greedily soaks up every ounce off his attention, she thought she would get away with her little masterplan however as she makes her escape she doesn’t realise that Levi’s already figured out she was the leading lady in the closet encounter.
Levi has known the shy, sweet, timid little Hannah for what feels like forever only now their closet tryst has him seeing her in a whole new light and he cannot stop thinking about her, a few week later when he finds out that Hannah’s going to be working under him at her dad’s law firm where they both now work he finds himself lusting after her more and more and it’s not long before the pair begin a hot, secret affair.
There’s plenty of drama ahead for the pair as a co-worker tries sabotaging the case they’re working on as well as their relationship, all that’s going on as they’re trying to keep their relationship under wraps from Hannah’s dad, her brother and their mutual friends whilst they find their footing.
Will Hannah’s dad catch them in the office? And what’s going to happen when her brother finds out? There’s never a dull moment in this brilliantly written, brothers best friend romcom with twists and turns which will keep you captivated from start to finish.
I felt like I waited forever for this book to be done and released. If you're wondering why it may sound familiar it's probably because it started out as a novella where we just got a quick glimpse of what this book would become in an anthology. When I read that very brief snippet, I was hooked and couldn't wait to get my hands on the full story. I was not even a little bit disappointed with how long I had to wait to get my hands on Levi and Hannah! Holy Hannah (pardon the pun) this book was EVERYTHING and more. In true J.D. fashion she made me laugh out loud until I cried at one point, the humor, especially between Hannah and Chase, is second to none. Then she broke my heart and made it hurt oh so bad but as always it's mended by the end and leaves you with all the warm fuzzies. Do I hope that there is more to come with these characters, oh no doubt about it, I don't want this to be the end, I need more Chase, more Kipley and Stacey and more Ben...not to mention more Levi and Hannah!!! If you've never read a book by this author, make this your first one because you will love it and not be disappointed. If you're a die hard fan, again, you won't be disappointed because this book is J.D. at her finest...the writing is simply spectacular!!!!!
Wow, this book took turns that I was not expecting after seeing the blurb. I always like this type of book, but JD Hollyfield put a spin on it that was completely unexpected, but definitely welcomed!
We have a leading lady that is all grown up and wants her longtime crush and brother's best friend to notice her, she gets that chance, but it is their fiery chemistry enough to build something on? What about all of the outside factors?!? You need to read to see, and boy should you!
All in all this was an interesting book that though it took me a little to get into it, once it did, I was ALL in! Not only was it full of fun moments, but it was stock full of sweet, funny, and even a little suspense thrown in there. The characters, primary and secondary, were relatable and I really liked their interactions. I recommend checking it out and give it a 4.5 outta 5 stars. Read this book if you are looking for something a little different and if it does not immediately click for you, give it just a little time!
PS: Thank you to JD Hollyfield and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.
What a fantastic new standalone story from Ms. Hollyfield!
This is a story of family, friendships and love that spans the test of time.
Levi and Hannah. They have known each other almost all their lives.
Hannah is Levi's best friend's little sister. She has always felt like the odd man out. The loner, she just wanted to be "seen" by Levi. She has crushed on him practically her whole life. She has a backbone of steel, surrounded by a soft heart and old soul.
Levi is absolutely an alpha hero. Throughout the story you see that he has always had feelings for Hannah, but didn't really realize it until much later. He beats himself up for how he has treated her in the past (or just stood by and watched) and he is making amends.
I love that this story didn't shirk on the details, you get the fully formed tale. Ms. Hollyfield doesn't hold back or gloss over the hard parts, but fully embraces them.
As always, you get plenty of heat, heart and laughs. A bit of mystery and some thrills. All the best parts of a perfect romance!
I honestly could not put this book down. The way the story first started out had me both laughing and cringing at the same time. Levi and Hannah’s romance with how it came about was extremely unique to me, but basically I was - You get it girl (insert fist pump here). It was beyond awesome. Then as the story evolved I had nailed it on the head in my own mind why Braydon was doing the things he was doing. But it wasn’t until the story took a turn I certainly didn’t see coming that showed what extremes he was willing to go to. This was exceptionally well written and took the whole story to another level. But what I enjoyed the most, and I guess some people would not like this part, were the flashbacks to both of them as children. These two were definitely meant for one another. Hannah always knew it, and I think Levi did too. As this is my first book by this author I will definitely be reading her backlist as soon as I can. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Hannah has been in love with her brother’s best friend Levi for as long as she can remember but he has never seen her as more than his friend’s sister. This is something she is determined to change so during her brother’s wedding reception she arranges a steamy encounter however the only problem is that he didn’t know who she was and when he finds out he is not only upset that it happened but regrets that it can never happen again.
Things are about to get a whole lot more complicated when Hannah’s new job as a paralegal has her working for Levi who is a lawyer. The chemistry and feelings between them is growing stronger every day and Levi doesn’t want to lose the people who are have become his family and that is only one of the obstacles that they find themselves facing.
The characters are compelling, the chemistry is intense, the banter humorous but the drama and suspense took me by surprise in a good way.
Chicks, Man brings us Levi and Hannah's story and as with every other Hollyfield book I've read, I was hooked from the start. Hollyfield has an amazing ability to not only grip you in the pages of her books, but to keep you hanging on her words, her characters actions, and the emotions the story invokes.
One of my favorite tropes has always been the brother's best friend/best friend's brother and this story did not disappoint. Hannah's crush on Levi has been going on for years, so when she sees a chance - well she takes it - no matter what. I loved these two together. They made me laugh, cry, and cheer.
The side characters, as always, also brought something to the mix, be it banter, humor, or angst.
If you are looking for a romance that will suck you in and leave you smiling - be sure to snag your copy today.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has secrets, laughs, and heartbreak
This is Hannah and Levi’s story. Hannah has been secretly in love with her brother’s best friend Levi, but he does not really see her. She sees an opportunity to have what she wants and takes it. The chemistry is off the charts but in her mind, I do not think she thought he would know but he finds out and is not happy. What ensues is a funny and crazy story that brings two people together. He might have not wanted her but now he wants her forever. Can he get her? Or will obstacles get in the way and push them apart before they ever have a chance?
I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Chicks, Man by J.D. Hollyfield was not only a cute book, it left me with a smile too! A romantic comedy and brother’s best friend romance, it was right up my alley. The story had me laughing out loud throughout and yet packed so many feels as well. I didn’t expect the story to be so emotional from the cover and blurb, but felt like it made the story more substantial and I enjoy a good feels-fest. I did feel as if the pace of the story began to drag a bit towards the end, but I enjoyed nonetheless.
Cute, funny, flirty, and packed with feels, Chicks, Man by J.D. Holly is a a great combination of laughs and love. 4 stars.
Hannah has been in love with her older brothers best friend Levi since childhood and when an opportunity presents itself to find out what it feels like to be kissed by him, she takes it. While Levi goes into the closet for a quickie, he doesn't expect it to be the best sex of his life and he's angry it was little Hannah. Now he can't get her out of his head and he wants more. As they work together in her father's law firm, Hannah and Levi finally give in to their feelings but not everything is easy. Throw in some suspense surrounding a dangerous case, nasty bullying from a jealous woman, hiding from her brother and family. Quick paced, good chemistry and great storyline.
never read a book by JDH before. it was a cute book, a fun break with laughs the novelty for me was that Levi was actually a nice man and didn't just pretend to be one and Hannah was brilliant and initiative and i liked it about her knowing each other most of their lives didn't get them to really know each other and their journey was fun to follow sometimes the love of your life is already there' you just need to pay attention and give your heart a chance * received an arc copy for review 3.5 *
What would you do if you had one chance to make a move on your crush of all crushes? Here's the stipulation - the crush won't know it's you. Would you do it?
Meet Hannah, the younger sister to her brother, Kipley. She has had a crush on his best friend, Levi, for forever. The only thing is that Levi, and the rest of Kip's friends, never saw Hannah as anything but Kip's younger sister and someone they could tease and torment growing up.
This story had so many elements - part fun, part suspense, part heartbreak. There was never a dull moment!
If you love your romance with a side of danger, rounded out with laughter, then Chicks, Man will definitely fill your needs.
Levi Dent has known Hannah Matthews forever - shy, timid Hannah. When a supply closet tryst exposes Hannah in a different light, Levi suddenly cannot stop thinking about her. When they are paired up at work, Levi's main intention is to make sure she's sorry for tricking him. But then, he realises he wants more, but Hannah's running scared.
Hannah has been in love with Levi since she was 7 years old, but he's never looked at her in any other way than as his best friend's little sister. But after she's presented with the perfect opportunity at her brother's wedding, she runs with it, greedily soaking up every bit of Levi's attention, like Cinderella at the ball. Shocked that Levi figured out what happened, she's determined to put the event behind her. He can't possibly want her in real life, anyway. Could he?
This book will make you laugh and feel so much. You'll be cheering for Hannah & Levi so hard before you even know it, too. Their chemistry was insane! I loved the suspense, too. J.D. Hollyfield knew when to ramp things up, and just when to dial things back. I loved the banter - especially the interactions with Chase. I definitely would love to read up on this group of friends in the future.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Hannah has always had a huge crush on her brothers’ best friend Levi, but she was off limits, until things change. This is a well written story which is filled with emotion, heartbreak, twists, sizzling chemistry, with banter, and is an all-consuming humorous story, which had me hooked throughout. I cannot wait to read more from this author whose work I highly recommend for all.
